Keeping Your Money Safe
Decision tree for where to park cash: ghost trades, banks, vaults, stocks, and points, plus the after-sale stash ritual.
By Weav3r
Overview
Anything in your wallet can be mugged. Keep it at $0 whenever you can: stash first, withdraw only right when you are about to spend, then stash again. Even a tiny mug is incentive for someone to keep hunting you. Mugging and most trade scams are allowed; assume someone will try.
Use the decision tree below, then the short habits for ghost trades, stocks, and post-sale stashing. Self-hosp methods live in How to trade.
Never hand cash to a "holder"
Anyone offering to hold, store, or invest your money for you is running a scam. Ghost trades with people you already trust are different: you keep the trade open and they never accept.
Pick a stash by time and amount
| Time until you need it | Amount | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Minutes to ~6 hours | Any trading float | Ghost trade with someone you trust (they do not accept). Reset before expiry. |
| Same day / flexible | Medium to large | Stocks (Stock Ticker): instant buy/sell, mug-safe while held. Price risk applies. Or property vault if you own one. |
| Days to weeks+ | Growth pile | City bank toward ~$2B cap (~$3B with 10★ Oil Rig Fat Cat). Cash stays safe until you withdraw after the term. |
| Whenever you next fly | Huge balances | Cayman bank (level 15+). Landing is the mug risk; use the short post-travel grace. |
| Until you sell | Value, not cash | Points / Xanax and other fast movers. Sell safely (hosp / travel). Points Market prices float. |
| Convenience only | Small buffers | Faction / company vault: access risk and wipe/hack risk. Not life savings. |
Pick a stash for this cash
Property vault
Need anytime access while online (not while hosp)
Points / Xanax
Liquid items instead of wallet cash; sell safely later
Faction / company vault
Convenience only - access and wipe risk are real
Picker assumes common mug-safe options. Confirm vault sizes, bank terms, and stock fees in-game.
Also useful: Piggy Bank (mission-credit item; break to withdraw) and careful auction bids (tied up until outbid/win). Skip bookie bets, passworded races, and "send cash to a friend in hospital" tricks from old threads.
Ghost cash for a few hours
- Open the profile of someone you trust → Trade.
- Label the trade ghost / gh so they do not accept by mistake.
- Add the cash (and nothing you intend to give away).
- Leave it open. Reset before the ~6-hour expiry.
Only ghost with people who will not cancel on you. When a trade ends or is cancelled, you briefly cannot be mugged; use that window to restash. Ghost trades are one of the few ways you can personally move cash while hospitalized.
Use stocks, vaults, and banks
- Stocks - buy shares to get cash off hand; sell when you need it (0.1% sell fee). Needs a Stock Ticker. You cannot trade stocks in hospital, jail, or while traveling. See Stock market.
- Property vault - owned Palace / Castle / Island (or unique with vault) + vault upgrade. Rentals do not count. Turn off vault sharing if you cohabit (Properties).
- City Bank - best set-and-forget for money you will not need this week. Cap ~$2B (~$3B Oil Rig Fat Cat).
- Cayman - huge balances, but you must travel to deposit/withdraw.
- Faction / company - convenience, not a personal vault. Bankers can move balances; company software corps can hack ~3% without SYS.
Sell without getting mugged
Hospital blocks mugs. Self-hospitalize (revives off) when cash on hand is about to get large: open bazaar / IM sales, accepting a big trade, etc. Methods and full trade workflow: How to trade → Self-hospitalize. Scam angle: Avoiding scams.
- Pull vault cash before you hosp (you cannot withdraw faction/property vault yourself while hospitalized).
- Start the trade yourself when you can; use the two-step confirm; re-check cash and items right before the final accept.
- Travel can protect you mid-sale, but landing exposes you. Prefer hosp for big floats.
- Blacklist known buy-muggers (Lists → Enemies → disable exchanges) so they cannot buy your bazaar.
Stash right after a sale
Accept → stash → then celebrate. Same for casino wins and lottery cheques (do not claim into a mug pile). Prefer accepting while already hospitalized.
- Cash lands.
- Ghost it, bank it, vault it, or buy stocks with it. Stash it safely.
- Celebrate your haul.
Do this
- Keep your wallet at $0. Withdraw only when you are about to spend.
- Match stash to time-to-need using the decision table.
- For big sales: self-hosp (see How to trade), sell, then restash before you leave hospital.
- Never send cash to a "holder."
